Create a wayfinding system and visual brand identity that reflects Kyoto’s historical, artistic, nature-abundant, and traditional culture.
To elicit Kyoto’s strong historical and artistic focus, calligraphic brushstrokes that mimic traditional Japanese calligraphy was used throughout. The paint-like imagery shows Kyoto’s tourist attractions with vibrant warm colours to reflect Kyoto’s widely appreciated fall season. Also, the shapes of the wayfinding signs resemble leaves so they look cohesive with Kyoto’s abundance of forests.
